Weekly updates from Lucy.....

NATIONALS!!!!

Day Two

Lydia Straford's turn today... swimming in lane 8 in a highly competitive heat, Lydia acquitted herself well, turning at the 100m mark with every chance of securing a good position.

As the race progressed Lydia seemed to be unfazed by the occasion putting in a solid swim that saw her rise 7 places to 19th in the final rankings for her age group.

Well done Lyds!!!

Day One

After a quiet build up, the British Gas National Age Group Championships started today...

George Field has been the first of our Nationals qualifiers to compete this year, swimming in the 200m Breaststroke. Swimming in the first heat, as he qualified from a short course competition, George found himself up against a competitor who eventually qualified second fastest for the 14yrs age group final... tough competition!!!

George had a really good swim, although ranked as the slowest competitor in his age group he gained three places over his rivals finishing in a creditable 24th place.

Well done George!!

Looking forward to Lydia Stratford's swim tomorrow, also in the 200m Breaststroke...

Nuneaton Junior League...

Well done all of you that have swam in the three rounds of the league, we are awaiting confirmation but by my calculations we have qualified for the final in September as the 5th placed team.

This means that we all need to get together to make sure a full team is available to place in the top 4 to gain promotion to division 2!

The final gala saw us in a close competition, unfortunately due to a couple of disqualifications we ended up in third place... I'm sure we can work this out in training and make sure that we achieve the maximium amount of points in the final and show everybody else what City of Hereford are really made of!!!

Midland Regional Age Groups...

Congratulations to all those who qualified and took part in the age group championships, they were a great success as a club...

George Field - Top 8 - 100m Breast, 200m Breast

Hugo also acheived 4th place in the BAGCAT competition - Well done to you all!!!

Also swimming individuals in the championships were...

Grace Alexander, Charlie Combe, Tom Hitchin and Mary Yoxall

Additional relay swimmers were...

I am rally pleased with everybody's efforts...

Brilliant work all of you!!!

County Development Squad

Isabella Fox, Grace Alexander, Charlie Combe, Lydia Stratford, Lydia Freeman, Harriet Aldous-Fountain

have been selected to train with the county development squad on various dates throughout the year.

And then there were three...!

Congratulations to Lydia Stratford who will be joining George Field and Roger Holland at Nationals this year. Lydia (13yrs) qualified for the 200m Breaststroke at a meet in Bracknell. Well done Lyds!

Wow… what a lot to catch up on…

First of all congratulations to new national qualifiers George Field and Roger Holland.
George (14yrs) qualified for the 200m Breaststroke at a meet in Newport, Roger (16yrs) posted qualification for 100m Backstroke. Both boys are close in other events… Now looking to see which of the girls is ready to join them in taking the next step toward the national championships.

Training…

Currently there are reviews of the squads taking place. All swimmers in the potential squads are being tested for entry into the next group up. Movements will take place at the beginning of June.
Competition squad swimmers will also be assessed on fitness levels as training lanes are constantly under review.
This is to make sure that you are getting the most out of your training.

Midland Age Group Championships…

Entries are in, could those who have qualified please double check the draft programme on
www.westmidlandswimming.org

Nuneaton Junior League…

For the second round in a row, the team posted a score exceeding 200 points. Despite missing four or five top swimmers the team comprising of 9-12yr olds achieved a score of 235points. Unfortunately league leaders Oldbury proved a little too much for us on this occasion.
The third round takes place on June 26th where we meet two other teams looking for one of the six places in the final, and ultimately a top four finish to gain promotion. It is therefore vital that every member of the team makes themselves available to give us the best possible chance of final qualification.

Midland Youth Championships…

…took place in Coventry 1st/2nd May. Competing swimmers were Roger Holland, Pat Meggitt, Jon Pugh, Crystal Cope, Lucia Hinksman and Issy Fox.
Solid swims were had by all with Roger and Crystal qualifying for finals.

April 20th

Phew! What a scorcher!!

Yes the weather was nice this weekend, but I'm talking about the first round of the Nuneaton Junior League...

We've entered this competition for the first time in 5 or so years (I'm sure somebody will be able to tell you exactly how long...). Starting from the bottom, in Division 3, there are 3 rounds of this league with the top 6 qualifying for the finals day in September with the top 4 teams gaining promotion to Division 2.

Up against Pershore, Camp Hill, Stourbridge B, Enderby B and Boldmere C, I wasn't quite sure how we'd get on. It's been a while since I've seen the standard of swimming in this division and with 10 members of the original squad missing I'll admit I got more than just my fingers crossed.

However... with maximum available points at 306, we racked up and incredible 248!!!

Congratulations to all those who swam, and a big thank you to those who stepped in at the last minute - you are all absolute superstars!!

The racing was a mixture of us diving in and coming up metres in front to those fighting for every point - I can't wait for the next round!

Big smiles all round!!!

Next round is on 8th May at Wolverhampton Central Baths (next to Molinuex football ground) 4.15pm warm up.

Teams are Hereford (obviously!), Wolverhampton Masters, Oldbury, Stourbridge B, The Court and Wombourne.

Team list will be posted shortly, but I can honestly say if you swam in the first round you will be selected for round 2.

April 14th

The squads for the county relays are published, these are not finite and subject to change, unfortunately having to get this out so that people can be freed to enter an open meet means that they may evolve and names are likely to be added. There are two sessions to this competition and it may be that you are selected for one and not the other. Fuller details will be posted when I have started to get indication of swimmer availability.

Do not be disappointed if you think you should be in the team, you may find yourself added nearer the time.

Any problems see me!

This weekend sees the start of the Nuneaton Junior League (round one at Leamington) and the end of the Worcester Winter League (round three at Droitwich). If you haven't seen the team yet, they are on the website and the noticeboard.

Congratulations to those who swam at Birmingham, Sheffield or Swansea on the Easter weekend. Everybody swam really well and although four days was exhausting, swopping from Birmingham to Sheffield half way through the weekend wasn't the best idea in the world, it was well worth the effort.

Again there were a number of personal bests and more regional qualifying times.

APOLOGIES...

My apologies to those swimmers whom I missed in the 200m IM and 100m Free on Sunday morning, unfortunately this couldn't be helped.

I hope that you can understand that I am quite upset that I missed any racing, but trouble with my car left me stranded in Hereford until I could resolve it.

The problem has been ongoing for a couple of weeks and the car has been to the mechanic during that time so I thought the problem had been fixed.

Looks like its time for a new car...
